Hi some helpful hints when caring for your wig. Real hair wigs should be treated with care, when washing make sure not to disturb the base as this can loosen some of the hair. After washing roll in a towel and leave to dry before styling. Remember also when using heated styling equipment always use a protective spray to keep the hair in the best possible condition.
Fibre wigs need to be washed in specialist shampoos and conditioners as they are not hair but synthetic fibre. Avoid any heat near a fibre wig as this can lead to damage. Again after washing roll in a towel to remove excess moisture and leave to dry. When using products such as sprays again use products specifically developed for fibre wigs.

Lisa,
I know you are an expert in this sort of thing, but I have always found that Johnsons Baby Shampoo is suitable for synthetic wigs, and I allow to drip dry on a wig stand until just damp; then shake out and leave until completely dry. Give a final shake and its as good as new.

Instructions from the shop where I brought my wigs (synthetic)

Add wig shampoo to a wash basin and fill with COLD water.

Let it soak for 10 mins.

Swish the wig gently NEVER RUB.

Rinse gently in cold water twice or until thoroughly rinsed.

Apply generious amount of ordinary FABRIC conditioner and gently work through hair with finger tips for 10 Mins.

Rinse thoroughly with cold water.

Drain and blot with a towel DO NOT SQUEEZE OR WRING.

Allow to air dry on a wig stand or slender object like a can of hairspray DO NOT USE HAIRDRYER

Brush wig only when completely dry.

Having taken this advice, beware of fabric conditioners. They can discolour some hair.
I now have distinguished grey streaks in my hair. Doesn't look too bad for me actually but might not suit some.

Stick to the manufacturers instructions.

Human Hair wigs are not for the faint hearted and really do require a lot of TLC.

I would also add that when washing it is best to gently stroke the hair along its length as to keep it aligned and to reduce the likelihood of matting which can occur if there is a reaction between the shampoo and the hair.

After removing the surplus water with a towel, adding some 'Leave in' conditioner ensuring all the hair gets coverage can help too, However as lisa says disturbing the base and the monofiliament top may lead to some hair being lost

Using a Hot roller brush and spray 'leave in' conditioner is great to create some semi permanent curls when the wig is dry!

Sometimes when I'm in town, I see the girls at 'Klea' in St Annes, who are all lovely and pamper me with the full works!.. :)

Thank you Linzi. Maybe hair conditioner is better than fabric ones.

Thank you Lynda. I must admit that when I take it off the colour and streaks look the same. Noice to grow old gracefully aint it?

Well yes it is!..... Certainly in the context of using it on Human hair, Wig or naturally grown!... That was what conditioner was designed for!....

You have to use some logic here!....Would Cheryl Cole say....... "Use a cupful of 'Comfort' because you're worth it!"????

As for using fabric softener on a fibre wig, I would always approach that idea with a degree of caution!....Most reputable wig manufacturers and suppliers would give you clear concise instructions in how to care for their product!

Again, thank you for your advice.

Somewhat embarrased I have to say that the problem has been solved by brushing. I think it must have cleared the residue that I failed to clear during the rinse. However I would still caution against the advice of using fabric conditioner.

On the plus side, I'm not grey anymore! I'm young again!!!:)

As for Cheryl Cole. Hmmm.

Thanks again.

having spents over 30 years in the wig industry both on the consultation and manufacturing side of the products produced for this market I can assure you that using fabric softener is one of the best ways of conditioning your fibre wig, it is of course a fibre and should not be confused with natural human hair.
