Sex swap air traffic controller warned over miniskirts
Apr 26 2009 Billy Paterson

A SEX change air traffic controller has been reprimanded by bosses because her miniskirts were distracting fellow workers.

Striking 6ft 4ins Jasmine Doherty was asked to tone down her dress by bosses at Atlantic House in Prestwick, Ayrshire.

Jasmine started her working life as James Doherty but had a sex change operation in Thailand last year.
National Air Traffic Control Services bosses sent letters to their employees asking them to abide by Jasmine's wishes and to treat her as a female.

But she was called in by managers and warned to stop wearing micro skirts in a working environment where concentration is absolutely paramount.

An insider said: "There were complaints about Jasmine's attire and she was given an informal warning by bosses.

"The management appreciate the stress involved in the job cannot be compromised but the issue was dealt with quickly.

"Jasmine has always been a popular member of staff."

Since the warning Jasmine has instead worn trousers.

As she arrived back from a shift last week Jasmine said: "I would get into a lot of trouble if I spoke about that.

"I can't comment I'm sorry." However, a friend said: "Jasmine does feel that she is being discriminated against.

"If any other female employee arrived at work wearing a short skirt no one would have any objection."
A spokesman for National Air Traffic Control Services said: "NATS have a policy of not commenting on individual members of staff."

A spokesman for the Air Traffic Controllers Union Prospect also declined to comment.

I dont believe that, surely micro mini skirts would be a no no in any office environment, and a natal female wearing one I am sure would be an even greater distraction to the male colleagues.

Yeah I agree Kaity,in a work environment where males work, and where human safety is paramount I think a policy of trousers OR long skirts are a must.

mind you I would hope that a natal girl would have no more effect on the guys than us.

I am really fortunate because the job I do permits me to wear micro skirts, which I favour.but do on occasions wear long skirts. Whichever I choose doesnt stay on for very long anyway! unless the students are doing a fashion drawing.

I agree too. I do recall many years ago working in a public office where we served the public all day long. One girl deliberately set out to challenge management tolerance to short skirts. It only took a few days for her to try a very short rah rah skirt. She looked great and caused a lot of distraction and was promptly sent home - correctly so.
