I have been a customer of Yvonne Barlows for a couple of years now but more recently I have been made to feel a little uncomfortable whilst shopping there. There has been a number of staff come and go over the past twelve months or so and the current manager and assistant manager don't seem to have much time for you. I have also heard of one or two other people who have been made to feel the same. I just wondered if anyone else has been to Yvonne Barlows more recently and been made to feel the same way as me. I have spent quite a lot of money in that shop and when buying a new wig it should be a pleasurable experience, but from now on I may just take my custom elsewhere to a place that makes me feel more welcome and is more appreciative.
I would welcome any feedback on this subject.

Hi Katie,

Mmm - interesting that you should say this. I have mixed feelings. Until a couple of months ago they were my first choice, always friendly, helpful, nothing was too much trouble and depending on who you see that is still the same. Victoria helped me with a new wig only a couple of weeks ago and her service was excellent - 1st class.

However there was some 'confusion' over the January sale offers which left me feeling a bit put out, which did leave me thinking twice before going back in.

I don't think that the manager (Andrea ?) has changed in quite a long time but some personnel have come and gone; and bubbly Donna has been unwell for quite some time. Alwyn, the older lady, is quite new, still learning the ropes and hasn't quite grasped the delicate intricacies that service in such a shop demand.

I believe too that the shop has sold out to a national chain - not sure if this a good thing or not ?

There is a new transgendered hair and beauty service in Manchester - Transfixed which is excellent and better than The Boudoir in London - which has been the market leader for quite some time.

Transfixed is not a 'dressing service', though they do have changing facilities. They specialise in wigs (with 15+ years experience at Hudsons in Manchester), make-up, nails, eyebrows etc... and work in tandem with a vibrant photographer for superb photoshoots. Email lisabreakey66@googlemail.com for more info.

But !!! On balance, I bought my new wig from Blackpool - because they had what I wanted and Victoria was wonderful. To be fair, Lisa at Transfixed has said since that she could have got the same wig and would have pricematched the January sale price offer.

This Is Interesting katie!

My last visit was to see Donna again who originally did my hair for the Christmas do and once more for Jill and Ellena's ceremony a few weeks ago! On those occasions and every time I have visited, I've found all the staff to be very chatty and friendly!........ As I am not a local, It's nice that they seem to remember me and ask me what I've been up to, which to me is appreciated.

I am surprised to be honest!....... However as an alternative, I can recommend you speaking to Jennie at Wigs R Us in Southport who's service is second to none!

I'd recommend Lisa and Zara in Transfixed for their hairdressing/wig expertise.
They've styled and 'refurbished' several of mine. I've also bought one from them, also trimmed and styled. Nice girls and lovely new surroundings in Beehive Mill, walking distance from Canal St, which could be a nice treat for a special occasion. Website's still being finalised.

apropos of nowt, a film crew had taken over the whole Mill to film Dragon's Den last time I was there (2 weeks ago).

Thanks for the input girl's, perhaps it's just that my face does not fit, but it is Donna who has mainly dealt with me and I have usuallly found her moody.
I once asked Donna about a Raquel Welch wig that was in one of their brochures and she told me that they don't come looking like that and need a lot of trimming and styling to get the same effect as the picture and it takes too long. This told me that she just could not be bothered. On the subject of styling, she has not trimmed my wigs very well. I have had to cut off stray hairs that were poking into my eyes that she had missed. On balance in future I will just shop elsewhere.

I believe the lovely lady in Southport you refer to, runs This Place. (http://www.wigsrusltd.com/)

I've found mail order quite effective. You don't have to deal with anyone!

Love, Josie.
