Cross-dresser jailed
A DRIVING instructor, who was caught walking the streets wearing women's clothing, was yesterday jailed for a month.
The Bahraini man allegedly wore an abaya and scarf in an attempt to lure clients for sex, claimed prosecutors.
He allegedly wore the women's clothing and carried a purse while walking the streets of Al Haddad Market, heard the Lower Criminal Court.
The 39-year-old, who denied the charges, allegedly dropped his wife off at her father's house in Manama before purchasing the used clothes last month.
He later parked his car on the side of the road and walked the streets in women's clothes in an attempt to lure sex clients, according to court documents.
The man was arrested after a police jeep patrolling the area saw him and became suspicious.
"We saw someone wearing an abaya and a scarf on the street at night and felt there was something odd about the way the person walked, but we didn't pay any attention to it at first," one of the officers said in his statement.
"But when we passed him and saw his face we were shocked to see that it was a man dressed up as a woman."
It is understood the defendant wasn't drunk and was fully aware of his actions, but when asked about the reasons for the incident he told prosecutors he didn't know.
"I don't have a particular reason for dressing like a woman and walking on the streets, but after I dropped my wife at her father's house, I purchased the clothes and wore them," he said in his initial statement.
He admitted to the charges during interrogation, but later changed his statements and pleaded not guilty in court.
