Hi everyone

Just thought I'd drop a quick line to let you know about two up and coming programmes on tele soon. The first one is on Sky 3 at 9pm next Thursday (29th Jan). It's called 'Transvestite Wives'. It's been on before but it's really good compulsive viewing. Also, does anyone watch 'America's Next Top Model'? It's a great show and the new series starts on Monday 26th Jan at 9pm on Living TV. What's really good about this latest series is that one of the contestants is a transsexual. Go girl!!!

Sorry but gender change is private and peronal isue not a public spectical

As most TV shows are

Shear common sence has gone out the window here.

Seeing the "T world" 'courting' the Media, or in this case television, in some naive attempt that it will "Further The Cause" always brings a smile to my face!...........

Whilst it is true to say such exposure does alert the world that we do exist..... 9 times out of 10 the exposure is usually portrayed in a form of 'titillation' for the viewer because the prime objective of any Commissioning Editor is to make a programme that somebody actually wants to watch, regardless of thier subject, or the lifestyle being ridiculed or not!

Sad though it seems, who would want to watch a programme about a woman getting ready to go out, have her nails done, and go shopping... etc?.... Sounds boring that!... However!... Should it be the case that the "Woman" happens to be a man or used to be a man, then that's different and that's the 'hook' that generates some interest..........

To me, if the person featured in such programming had some kind of "Editorial control" they would be able to at least ensure they are portrayed in some kind of favourable light and not in a way that reinforces the usual stereotypical view society has on the T world!..........

Oh Sally/Linzi...you're looking at it much too deep and one-dimensional. For one, re 'Transvestite Wives', the clue's in the title...it's about the WIVES of TV's. Having seen it before, I can honestly say it's not titilating or demeaning in any way shape or form. My wife for example, found it a real eye opener and if anything, the programme offered her a unique insight and even some solace in that she wasn't on her own!
As for America's Next Top Model...well you either love it or you don't. However, the TS competing is stunning and she clearly disagrees that changing gender should be an exclusive and private affair only. She has embraced the limelight and publicity aimed at her and I say, good on her! But, it is 'reality TV' and like I said before, you either love it or you hate it! I personally can't abide soaps like Corry and Eastenders! Each to their own eh?

Much too deep maybe, but one-dimensional!..Not at all!.......;)

I confess to watching "TV wives" all for about 10 mins, until the thought of emptying my dishwasher and pushing my wheelie bin up my driveway became more appealing!.................

I still fail to see the relevance of snapshots of legs being shaved, a stocking being rolled up, a top being slowly taken off etc etc!.... and of course the "Pièce de la résistance" where one couple drive to some isolated spot just to take a couple of "pictures!".....:rolleyes:

True enough, the programme was supposed to be from the wives perspective but yet again, from what I saw, I could sense elements within the programme that will just re-enforce some myths and stereotypical views the general public continue to hold so dear to....

Fair enough Linzi and point(s) taken...if not necessarily agreed with!!! That's what makes the world such a wonderful place, we're all different and we all have differing opinions...long may it stay that way!
