What items would be included in a basic makeup bag of an aspiring girl? Looking in Boots today, there are a myriad of different products to choose from, let alone manufactures! Any ideas?

K, trawling this from the back of my memory, cos I rarely wear the stuff, think the last time was on March 11th... anyway...

The basics... Moisturiser (essential!), Foundation, Blusher, Lip Gloss/Stick, Mascara, Eyeliner (optional), Blusher. ( think thats it? ).

Plus you'll need some good brushes of various sizes and/or some cosmetic sponges, good pair of tweezers, eye brow brush, eye lash curler (optional).

Kiss and Make Up on Abingdon Street is revered by many, but disliked by others.

The trick with foundation is to get a colour that matches your neck, cos when you blend it into your neckline THIS is where the difference between it and your skin will show most. If there is a vast difference between your facial skin tone and your neck skin tone then get some colour on your body! *makes a mental note to do this too*

Heres is what I would suggest and they needn't cost the earth ;)

Disposible eyeshadow applicators- nothing is worse than getting sore eyes from old applicators!

A good blusher brush- what I mean is one that isn't sheding fibres everytime you look at it.

Hope this helps,

For those who are unable to undergo Laser/IPL/Electrolysis, I would say a complete coverage foundation and setting powder combo such as Dermablend or Kryolan are essential. The only downside is these can look a bit heavy during the daytime, although they are fine for a night out. Like Kaity says, It's very important to match your skintone!

Daytime essentials for me are mainly Mascara, a bit of eye liner, and a
low-key, colour lippy which I need to wear to make my lips look a bit bigger and more girlie like!

Dermablend and others of that ilk I find to much, I get a far better result from using Max factor liquid foundation followed (after dry) by powder, its sets it.
See the makeup tips thread on this forum for my full description.
Honestly I get much better results.

Oh two superb products I can heartily recommend, both from Benefit, so they are not cheap.

1) Full Beam

This product is the biz and I love it.

You apply four dots of High Beam to the outer edge of your cheekbone, and then use finger to spread it inwards along the cheek bone.

It highlights your cheekbones and seems to reflect light up into your eyes, making them appear to shine more.

One of my girlfriends always steals my bag to find out if I have mine on me, and then proceeds to apply some. I keep telling the cheap bitch to buy her own! :)

2) Cupids Bow

This is designed to give your lips more of a fuller shape, and it works!

It comprises of a double ended pencil and a double ended brush. You use one end of the pencil to highlight the central bow on your top lip and the other end to low light the central line of your lower lip. You then use the brush ends to smudge them, then apply gloss.

Thank you for all the help and advice.

I visited Boots yesterday and one of the lovely makeup assistants, Sally, from the No. 7 counter help me put together a basic makeup kit, which included matching the foundation to my skin tone. A bit disconcerting having foundation applied, whilst in male mode with other customers looking on!!! On the plus side it didn’t cost me too much as No. 7 has a 3 for 2 offer on at the moment.

I’ve had a few attempts today trying it out! It’s going to take me ages to get it right! I feel confident enough, with my limited skills, to attend my first Ren meeting next week. I look forward to meeting you all.
