Some may see this as a little personal, but I thought I'd just post it here, if you don't want to add to it then you don't have to.

What were the first things you did when? You came out of the closet.

When I first told my then girlfriend 14 years ago I was determined to start the ball rolling, previously living completely in the male role had it's setbacks.

1, The first thing I did was to go up stairs and get out the lady shaver and get rid of all that unwanted body hair, then I'd go and have a bath and finish it off with a razor. After that I felt so much better. :)

2, Learn to stop biting my nails and let them grow again, you can't be a girly with ugly stubby, bitten finger nails, can you?

3, Tell close family & 2 best mates the good news that I was free!

4, Look at getting rid of all of the old clothes such as trousers, shirts and ties, I wouldn't be wearing those again. The jeans and t shirts could stay though.

5, Start using hand and face creams, years of living as a man takes it's toll on your skin.

6, Do something about my hair and eyebrows, my hair was already quite long as it hadn't been cut for about 5 years so the first thing I did with that was go blonde (for a while anyway). Plucking does hurt though.

7, Start enjoying life again...

1) I screamed a lot

3) I cried a lot

2) I laughed a lot

4) rotated 1,2 & 3 in some abundance, and continue to do so :p

5) I went downstairs to watch TV (was living back with parents at the time), and when I sat down I automatically, without thinking, put my hands on my backside and thighs to keep my skirt from riding up... even though I didnt have one on... and had worn one maybe three times in my entire life. After I had sat down I thought 'what the hell did I just do?'. The girl was out!

6) Shaved my legs in the shower, while crying, and hence cut myself a lot

7) Told my retired ex-Relate Counsellor father (who I expected to be understanding), who proceeded to try and 'out do' me (as is his manner) by sharing a secret of his with me that he had been sitting on for 40 years... no he wasnt a secret TG... he told me I had a half-brother from an affair he'd had.

8) Told my small minded, racist, homophobic, childphobic, 'look on the black side of everything' mother (who I expected to throw me out of the house)... who turned around and replied with "well I wish I'd been a man".... (yes, my family is very odd... so much so I think I am the only 'normal' one, and/or was switched with another families baby in hospital :D which I often tell them all in jest.)

9) Told my very 'blokey' sister (she is more blokey than I am, farts, belches and scratches herself in public, eats like... well, you dont want to know, cant multi-task yadda yadda, but is ALL woman happily married with three kids... see told you my family was odd!)... who said something like 'ah, now it all make sense, I thought you were gay' and immediately switched to referring to me as she, her, sis, bitch, ho, etc :D

10) Started growing my hair and plucking my eyebrows

11) Started truly living and enjoying life (which led to repeating steps 1,2 & 3 even more)

EDIT

12) Stopped being able to count, as can be seen from this thread

PS I am from Brum too, was born in Marston Green Hospital, but moved away when I was 7 to Kent and lost the accent!
