I read on a website that false eye lashes are less trouble and mess than mascara. Could anyone comment, please?

Mascara takes me about 30 seconds to apply when I use it which is rarely as I always get my lashes tinted at a local salon and that gives me wonderful long lashes for about 6 weeks. Most of the girls at the salon say I have really long girly lashes anyhow so have never seen the need for the fake ones that take forever to glue on, get straight, set, then try to peel off or hope that they don't fall off. I've used them once and never since, far to much messing, stick with the mascara.

I normally use mascara for the majority of my looks. It takes me maybe just over a minute to apply per eye. When I want something special or want to look really girly then I’ll use false eyelashes. I do not have very good eyelashes so at times need a little help. As with everything practice does make perfect, I can normally apply false eyelashes in less than a minute per, eye now a days, and they do stay in place for an evening. If you are especially careful in removing them, then they can be re used a good few times. Having very fair lashes I normally do a once over with mascara before applying my false ones, this gives me the volume and colour I need.

I have found that shoving a cocktail stick up the "jacksie" of a hairy catepillar, makes a very good mascara brush, along with cigarette ash that's slightly moistened, makes a good mascara if you are ever caught short! ;)

Use eyelash curlers before applying mascara and it will make your lashes look longer and your eyes wider...
Also, hold the wand still and blink your lashes over it. Less chance of smudges.
My tuppenceworth on this issue.

We could do a seperate thread for natural make up
burn the end of a small stick match and use Charcoal for eye liner, beetroot for Blusher lippy! chalk for the goth look, and so on:D

I've used quite a few varieties of mascara, my favourite though is quite a cheap one, Maybelline XXL volume & length. Is a great product and easy get hold of. The wand is nicely shaped and makes application a breeze. A lot of make up artists prefere it to the more expensive stuff. If you have a bit more money then Lancome Definicils is very good also, doesn't clump and lengthens the lashes.

I use a Black Khol-spl? pencil for the lower eye,and for the top of the lid i use Liquid eyeliner,i normaly get my stuff from Superdrug.
I am quite pleased in that the liquid eyeliner i use i have had had Experianced women tell me that they can not use the liquid liners! so i must have a steady hand.
I do not stick to one make but often the branded ones are better.

Warning - please note that this is from the girl who told a Manchester policewoman that the ideal thing to carry in your handbag is a cigarette lighter and an aerosol hairspray, they are the perfect way to sort out anyone giving you trouble. Hold the lit lighter in front of the hair spray and press the button - zap! Then remove heels and RUN!!!!!!!!!!!

Thankyuo for your advice and entertainment. I am now going out (dressed) to find the best buy, either the Boots 7 offer, or Maybelline. This will only be the second time in public (Ren' is not quite public).
I posted an account of my first time, and, for anyone interested it can be found on the "experienceproject.com

Hello Sylvia,
Good luck with your going out, Boots girls are always nice and polite and you will have no problems whatsoever with them. They'll always give you good advice. Katey who is the manager at the Manchester branch in charge of the Estee Lauder counter there is a total gem as is Susan in Debenhams in Blackburn.
If you ever want a partner to go out with, let me know I'm always up for a shopping trip with the girls.

I went girlie shopping to the Trafford centre in manchester for the first time a few weeks ago.First time there I mean,as I am full time. But even though I am it does help I have found to have the company of a natal girlfriend if you intend to use the ladies trying on room.If one is READ it really does make a huge difference if the friend is with you in the room advising. The ladies supervising in the changing rooms, especially M nd S where so nice, and actually joined in the advising and admiration of selection. The other ladies trying on stuff were also very friendly.I have never had any problem anyway in my normal shopping areas of Southport, but going to a new place I found it reaasuring to have my friend in tow. For makeup I find the staff in the bodyshops to be very friendly and helpful.I have found actually that just being very confident of our true nature is all that is required when out and about,it atracts less attention than going round feeling and thus looking conspicuous. Hope this helps.! Bea

I use fals eylashes. I have excellent applicator. It is small, compact and is excellent and not available in any shops - and called a Jill. Good on lips as well, but that is another story.

Unfortunately we are all not so blessed as to have a Jill, and have to fiddle around looking in a probably steamed up, poorly light mirror.

Good comment ellena, it makes 1 laugh on a hangover sunday morning! I knew i shouldn't have had a few of those lagers in da handbag last night. I'm sure u could run a car on it! It's deadly.

I'm begining to realise that you pretty much get what you pay for within the cosmetic market. I've always bought the cheaper end, but am certainly learning that that was rather a false economy. Now that I use Estee Lauder and Clinique I'm finding that I look much better, my skin is much softer and hydrated and I don't need to use half as much as I once did.
I'm now trying to move away altogether from using it, certainly mascara, I pretty much dislike the stuff and much prefer to spend a £5 and get them tinted every month or so.

I wrote an account in my blog, should anyone be interested. Unfortunately I seem to have only stubby eyelashes, so think I will have to go for false ones. Never mind, at least I can use the £5 Voucher I got last time out!

Hello Sylvia,
Just reading you blog, and was wondering why you think they charged you too much at Boots. Surely you can check the prices and they not going to charge you more in a place like Boots for anything because of who you are, now in some rip-off places they would.
Take Care

Hi, I use mascara as it is quick and effective. False eye lashes are really for a night out where you can allocate more time as they are fiddly to apply securely. They can make you look like Barbara Cartland if you over do it! It depends how good your own lashes are as they tend to thin, like eye brows as you get older.
The liquid eye liners give a more intense affect but are slightly more difficult to use. I use it all the time. You can make the line very thin and intense.
